President DroupadiMurmu emphasized the pivotal role of key institutions, including the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), in propelling India toward a developed status by 2047. Speaking at the ‘Audit Diwas’ organized by the CAG, she commended the institution for its strides in modernization, particularly highlighting the establishment of the Centre for Data Management and Analytics, harnessing digital technologies for future-oriented practices.
“Today, our nation aspires to accelerate progress towards a developed India by 2047. All vital entities, including CAG, must contribute to realizing this ambition,” stated President Murmu during the commemoration of Audit Diwas, honouring the appointment of the first Auditor General of India in 1860.
CAG Girish Chandra Murmu underscored the transformative shift toward digital governance, highlighting the apex auditor’s adoption of technology. He announced the successful transition to a 100% digital auditing process effective April 2023, leveraging the One IAAD One System (OIOS) for comprehensive audit management and knowledge. This transition, he noted, owed its success to the collaborative efforts of numerous individuals involved in its conceptualization, design, implementation, and continuous support.
“Data analytics has become integral to our audit procedures, empowering us to employ cutting-edge tools like drones, GPS, and remote sensing, enabling deeper insights otherwise unattainable,” remarked CAG Murmu. The institution’s concerted efforts led to the presentation of 183 audit reports encompassing diverse government activities before Parliament and State Legislatures during 2022-23.
Furthermore, winners of the second bilingual national online essay writing competition, centered on ‘Celebrating the resilience of Indian Democracy and the role of the CAG of India,’ were felicitated, underscoring the significance of transparent governance and the role of key institutions in sustaining democracy.
The event, marked by discussions on leveraging technology for enhanced audit efficiency and the imperative role of institutions in nation-building, highlighted India’s concerted efforts to achieve developmental milestones by embracing innovation and modern methodologies.
